Dawsons supports Cairns ExpoDec 10, 2009 Yesterday's jobs expo in Cairns has been declared a resounding success.The expo was organised to address the region's high unemployment rate by linking job seekers with prospective employers. Dawsons Group of Companies supported the expo with a stand promoting Labour Hire and Tranining opportunities. The region's employment coordinator, Peter Doutre, says 5,500 people attended and 35 were hired by employers. "We've got expressions of interest from 2,500 for work, we've got 80 people who have already been signed into training placements and 290 people with offers of work to be placed," he said. Paul Creedon from Centrelink says many more people got the opportunity to meet prospective employers. "Those people have probably handed in their resume and there could be jobs well in the future," he said. "We know the economy's starting to get legs now, it's starting to strengthen and a lot of those people now will be able to have their resume now with a prospective employer.". Dawsons Expanding at GEMCONovember 2008 Dawsons Engineering was recently awarded the balance of the Stage 1 work packages for the Groote Eylandt Expansion Project. The incremental expansion of the Groote Eylandt concentrator is aimed at increasing the processing capacity of the plant, to 4.0 Mt per annum, by removing bottlenecks from the existing layout.
