Dawsons Engineering, Zinifex and WorleyParsons are celebrating the successful use of an Alliance contract to deliver a new Surge Tank and associated Structural, Mechanical, Piping, Electrical, Instrumentation and Tie In packages for the Project PERCent at Zinifex Century Mine.

“Dawsons delivered their packages under time, under budget and with no LTIs.” said Century Mine Acting General Manager, Jeff Innes.

“The major challenges of integrating a project in a Brownfield site within a tight delivery schedule were managed exceptionally well under the Alliance model”, commented Dawsons General Manager, Lloyd Everist. “This project is of high value to Zinifex, so it was imperative to provide value for money, whilst delivering as quickly as possible.”

The alliance model contract enabled Dawsons to value add at the front end of the project by providing input based on their site experience at Century and assist with refining the work method and tightening the specifications.

Using an Alliance contract allowed Zinifex and WorleyParsons to fast track the time taken to progress from Engineering to Construction by eliminating the time normally spent defining the scope of works, releasing tender documents, evaluating bids, formalising contracts, mobilizing and procuring longer lead time items.

All eyes were focussed on Dawsons as they successfully delivered the Critical Path Tie Ins during the 12 hour concentrator shutdown in May. “Our ability to draw on our site experienced personnel for the task and the backing of Zinifex maintenance and operations was vital to the successful execution of the tie-ins.”, said Lloyd Everist.

The benefit of using an Alliance partner for this project was also evident in performance in non cost KRAs, like the management of HSEC. Dawsons has already integrated Zinifex’s site specific HSEC requirements in to their systems under the Support Services Alliance, so the Project PERCent requirements were seamlessly met.

The execution of this project under an Alliance model represented excellent value for money for Zinifex.

Dawsons Engineering was awarded the Support Services Alliance at Century Mine in 2005. Under the SSA Alliance, Dawsons provide maintenance support, shutdown labour, project services and labour hire.
